Visitors to Royal Welsh asked to help shape the future of public services

Visitors to the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show will be asked for their views on public services in Wales as part of the Commission on Public Service Governance and Delivery’s consultation.

A drop in session will be held at the Welsh Government’s pavilion on Wednesday July 24th, where the Commissioners will be asking for the views of the public on issues such as:

  • Do public services understand and respond to your needs and those of your community? And how could they do this better?
  • Do you know enough about who provides what service, and how they do it?
  • Do you think that different public service organisations work well together to provide services?
  • Do you understand who your services are answerable to? And are they held to account for their performance?
  • Could public services be provided in a way that would deliver a better service for the people that use them?

The Commission was established in April 2013 to look thoroughly and objectively at the way public services are governed and delivered in Wales, and how they may be improved. This broad remit covers all devolved public services including local government, health services, emergency services, and cultural, heritage and environmental services. The Commission will report to the Welsh Government by December this year and its recommendations could have a major impact on how public services are delivered.

Chair of the Commission on Public Service Governance and Delivery, Sir Paul Williams said:

“The First Minister has tasked the Commissioners to make recommendations to help shape the future of public service delivery.”

“We need to ensure that the work of the Commission and any recommendations it makes is based on evidence from a broad variety of sources and perspectives. It is therefore very important for the users of public services in Wales to provide examples of their experience and I warmly invite people to come and visit us at the Royal Welsh Show to tell us about the services they receive.”

This is the first public engagement event carried out by the Commission. There are a number of other events across Wales, including informal public meetings, where the Commission will be seeking views from the public on how services may be improved. The other events are as follows:

  • 5 August (all day) – National Eisteddfod of Wales, Denbighshire
  • 6 August (1000 – 1230) – Maesgwyn Conference, Training and Community Centre, Wrexham
  • 7 August (1200 – 1730) – Cardiff Central Library, Cardiff
  • 12 August (1000 – 1200) – Welsh Government Office, Llandudno Junction
  • 13 August (1000 – 1500) – Plas Dolerw, Newtown
  • 11 September (1200 – 1800) – Pembrokeshire Archives, Haverfordwest
  • 23 September (1200 – 1800) – Gorseinon Centre, Gorseinon
  • 24 September (1200 – 1800) – White Rose Information Centre, New Tredegar
