The Learning Revolution Festival

In October 2009 the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) is launching The Learning Revolution Festival, a month-long celebration of informal adult learning and its benefits for individuals, families, businesses and communities.

Throughout October hundreds of events, such as taster sessions, workshops, demonstrations, performances, competitions and classes, will take place across England giving current learners the chance to celebrate what they enjoy and others the opportunity to try something completely new.

Libraries, galleries, adult education providers, sports clubs, voluntary arts organisations, reading groups, University of the Third Age groups and many other organisations are getting involved by showcasing their activities and giving people a potentially life-changing experience.

By highlighting the richness and sheer diversity of what's available, The Learning Revolution Festival will encourage people from every walk of life to get involved in learning, whether it's by joining a book club, taking part in a dance class in a community centre or joining a class at the local adult education centre.

Kevin Brennan, Minister for Further Education, Skills and Consumer Affairs, said: "Whether it's opening up space for a local learning group or club or learning something new yourself, there are loads of ways to make the most of the festival in October."

The Learning Revolution Festival will run from 6-31 October 2009 and events will be taking place throught the country. To find out what events are happening near you, please visit www.direct.gov.uk/learningrevolution.
