The review of the teacher qualifications in England is about to begin
In 2007 new teaching qualifications were introduced to the further education sector in England with great success. This year government have asked us to work with the sector to review and update these, and ensure they are delivering the skill-set required for the future. The review will include.
. Current generic teaching qualifications, including PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS and their equivalents offered by higher education institutes.
. Current subject specific qualifications for teachers of literacy, numeracy and ESOL.
. Accredited professional development opportunities beyond initial training.
. A proposal to establish a new qualifications framework for all learning professionals.
The review will take place in two phases. The first phase, from October 13 through to 9 November, will take a broad overview approach to the review with opportunities to feedback. The second phase, taking place in 2011, will see more detailed proposals being put forward for change, based on the feedback received from the first phase.
We want you to have your say on these vital developments. You can contribute through our online survey, by holding a self facilitated group or attendance at one of our six events. Please click on the link to register for an event:
. Manchester - Wednesday 13 October, The Mechanics Institute
. Birmingham - Friday 15 October, Austin Court
. Taunton - Wednesday 20 October, The Oake Manor
. London - Thursday 21 October, Friends House
. Leeds - Tuesday 2 November, The Carriage Works
. London - Wednesday 3 November, The Window
These events are an important opportunity to discuss the proposals with colleagues and representatives from a wide range of organisations to inform your thinking and responses. The review document, which supports this process and includes our proposals on each of the areas of review, will be made available on our website on 11 October.
