'Science Bridges' awards

The Research Councils UK (RCUK) are inviting outline proposals from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) either individually or in consortia with others and business for Science Bridges Awards.

The Sainsbury Review of the UK Government’s S&I Policies (The Race to the Top) concluded that the first US Science Bridges had "helped to develop entrepreneurial skills amongst researchers and supported the commercial development of technology and expertise in spin-outs." It went on to recommend the extension of Science Bridges to China and India. The Research Councils are therefore seeking outline proposals from UK institutions that already have extensive research interactions with USA, China or India. Support available for Science Bridge awards are £4 million each for the USA, China and India.

Closing date for outline proposals is 4:00pm on Thursday 15 May 2008.

The number of outline proposals that each organisation can submit is limited to one per Science Bridge country, Principal Applicants should be a senior officer of the University acting on behalf of all contributors to the proposal.
