IfL responds to FE guild funding announcement

The Institute for Learning (IfL) has responded to the announcement that the government has approved proposals for a new guild for the further education and skills sector and allocated annual funding of £18.8m for the next two years.

IfL’s chief executive, Toni Fazaeli, said, “IfL looks forward to continuing our work with the guild, as a key partner, alongside other independent membership organisations, such as the 157 Group, and trade unions. As the professional body for tens of thousands of individual teachers and trainers in further education and skills, our members will rightly expect us to represent their needs and interests and to use evidence from members to inform the work of the employer-led guild.

“Now that the implementation plan has been accepted and funding confirmed until 2015, IfL will work with the guild, and other partners, to ensure that the best standards and qualifications are developed for the sector, helping to support outstanding teaching and learning for the benefit of young and adult learners, and for the wider economy.

“IfL continues to evolve and will further develop its distinctive role as the professional body for individual teachers and trainers, focusing on raising their status; supporting practitioners throughout their career; and giving them a voice in the further education and skills sector.”
