In October The National Archives hosts a number of fascinating free events and talks where specialists will share their knowledge and offer useful advice on research and best practice for using the archives.

With subjects as diverse as Magna Carta and King John to Britain's changing relationship with the European Community, these talks provide a valuable insight into key historical events and issues.

Other highlights include:

• Victorian women prisoners - a talk on the records and individual stories of women prisoners from 1853 to 1887.
• The British in India - an insight into records on the British overseas in India held at The National Archives and at the British Library and advice on the many online sources available.
• Family history sources at The National Archives - an introduction to the main sources for family history research available at The National Archives.

New to The National Archives?

There are also daily drop-in sessions to introduce first-time visitors to the range of services available at The National Archives and to show you how to make the most of our resources. These free sessions start at 11:30 and last  approximately 30 minutes; pre-booking is not required.
