Heritage Minister looks forward to next week's National Eisteddfod
The Heritage Minister said:
“The National Eisteddfod brings a major economic and cultural boost to the area which hosts the event, as well as giving the Welsh language in the area a significant boost.
“I spent many happy years during in my childhood in the area which is hosting the Eisteddfod this year. It is where I received my primary and secondary education, and I am very much looking forward to being back in Bala for a week and to take part in events at the Eisteddfod.
“I am sure that this Eisteddfod will be as much of a success as the festival’s previous visits to the area. I offer my best wishes to the Eisteddfod next week and I’m sure a great number of people will be visiting the festival to enjoy one of the cultural high points of the year.”
Earlier this year, the Heritage Minister announced an extra £100,000 for this year’s event to reflect the difficulties the Eisteddfod face in terms of fundraising in a rural area like Meirionydd. This was in addition to the £485,722 that the National Eisteddfod receives from the Welsh Language Board.
The Heritage Minister will be undertaking a number of engagements during Eisteddfod week including opening Maes D, the Welsh learners pavilion, opening Lle Celf, taking part in a surgery on the Welsh language in the Welsh Assembly Government pavilion and chairing a question and answer session on the language in the Societies Pavilion.
