Business encouraged to attend seminars covering new regulations for fabricated steel products
The CE Marking of all fabricated steel used in construction becomes mandatory next year and businesses in Wales are being encouraged to attend free seminars to ensure they are up to speed on the new regulations.
The deadline for the mandatory CE Marking is July 1 2014 and after that date it will be illegal to trade fabricated steelwork and related products on the European market unless it has CE accreditation. The regulations covers products such as steel sections, bolts, welding consumables and fabricated steel components that are used in building, bridges, highways or other civil engineering projects.
CE Marking is regulated by criminal law and the penalties for not CE Marking or incorrect CE Marking are a fine, imprisonment or both and businesses could potentially be closed until proper certification is in place or forced to recall non-complying products already on the market.
The events are sponsored by the Welsh Government in conjunction with the Construction Industry Training Board, Engineering Construction Industry Training Board and the British Steelwork Association.
They will enable businesses to learn about their obligations in this area, highlight support available to them and hear from leading industry speakers on the subject.
Two morning events starting at 8.30am, will be held on Wednesday 11 December at the Welsh Government Offices, Penllergaer Swansea and on Friday 13 December at the Welsh Government offices in Llandudno Junction. Places can be booked through Business Wales website or by phone tel. 03000 6 03000.
