CIOB works with Leonardo da Vinci

The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) is set to partner the Leonardo da Vinci funded project ‘PROCONSTR’.

PROCONSTR aims to improve vocational education in the construction industry by identifying and recognising qualifications across the European Union. The CIOB will be responsible for preparing the syllabus and training materials.

The program of vocational training will be based on European regulations for certifying and qualification. The initial focus will be on eight selected construction professions for graduates from vocational schools and technical secondary schools. As well as employees who are professionally active and want to increase their skills.

Saleem Akram CIOB Director of European Affairs commented; “This is a great opportunity to help the flow of workers in construction across the European Union. Once the project has been completed we will have a standardised set of vocational education criteria. Which we can then create new training solutions for and prepare vocational education system reforms at a domestic level.”

The Leonardo da Vinci programme links policy to practice in the field of vocational education and training (VET). Projects range from those giving individuals the chance to improve their competences, knowledge and skills through a period abroad, to Europe-wide co-operation between training organisations.

Part of the European Commission's Lifelong Learning Programme, the programme funds a wide range of actions, notably cross-border mobility initiatives; co-operation projects to develop and spread innovation; and thematic networks. The potential beneficiaries are similarly wide – from trainees in initial vocational training, to people already in the labour market, as well as VET professionals and private or public organisations active in this field.
