Advance notice of the review of the NOS for the LAIS sector

During October 2010 we will be undertaking a review of the Information and Library Services, Archives Services and Records Management National Occupational Standards (NOS).

There are currently two suites of NOS for the Information and Library Services, Archive Services and Records Management sector - one aimed at managers and practitioners and a second which is particularly applicable to staff in operational roles. Both cover the libraries, archives, information services and records management workforce.

We are now looking to review, revise and align all the existing NOS for the LAIS sectors, including revisiting the Functional Map and updating a UK wide Occupational Map.  A working group of employers and expert practitioners will support our work in gaining an understanding of the roles and functions that take place in the sector.

Get involved
In October 2010 we will be seeking feedback from those working in the sector on the revised draft of standards. Opportunities to get involved include an openly available electronic survey, and a consultation event held in each nation of the UK.  The events will be held on the following dates:

14 October - Edinburgh
19 October - Llandrindod Wells
21 October - Leeds
22 October - London

In addition, materials for consultation will be made available for those who may wish to host and facilitate their own event within the consultation period - this allows the flexibility to focus on any key issues or areas of interest a particular organisation may have.

If you would like to take part in this review you can email your interest to nosproject@lluk.org, stating how you or your organisation would like to be involved:
. To be considered for Working Group membership (an expression of interest does not guarantee membership)
. Register for news and for the release of consultation
. Register your interest in attending a consultation event
. Host your own consultation event
