The services provided by the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) in the south east is found to have failings, according to a new Ofsted report
Ofsted has found that, although Cafcass offers a good to adequate service for children involved in public law proceedings, its services in private law proceedings in the region are inadequate.
The priority given to public law cases has led to serious delays in providing services to children and families involved in private law proceedings. The private law service is inadequate and unacceptable.
Cafcass provides a social work service to children and families who are involved in family court proceedings and where the welfare of children is, or may be, in question. Cafcass in the South East covers Kent, Surry and Sussex.
Ofsted inspected and assessed the quality of service, front-line practice and management of Cafcass’ south east region in November and December 2007.
The inspection report includes 10 recommendations aimed at improving Cafcass’ south east delivery of services. Ofsted continues to work with Cafcass south east to monitor its progress.
