Delay on emissions reporting frustrating - CBI

The CBI responded to DEFRA’s Parliamentary Report, Company Reporting of Greenhouse Gas Emissions.  DEFRA’s report explains why regulations on the mandatory reporting of greenhouse gas emissions will not be introduced by 6th April 2012 as planned.

Rhian Kelly, CBI Director for Business Environment policy, said:

“The CBI has long called for mandatory carbon reporting and we are frustrated, but not surprised, by this delay. It would be difficult to bring in mandatory reporting while the unworkable Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) stays in place.

“We urge the Government to scrap the CRC and replace the reporting elements of it with mandatory carbon reporting. This should prove a key driver in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and provide a less complex, costly and bureaucratic process for businesses.”
