Progress of HEAT targets

Scotland's Chief Statistician has published statistics that measure progress against HEAT target E7: Electronic Management of Referrals.

HEAT target (E7) Electronic Management of Referrals

These statistics show the percentage of GP referrals that are sent electronically to secondary care through the SCI Gateway, as well as the percentage of referrals from GPs to consultant led secondary care that are managed electronically.

  • The proportion of all referrals received through SCI Gateway by NHS Boards in Scotland increased by over 12 percentage points from 82.7 per cent in April 2009 to 95.0 per cent in June 2010
  • The percentage of referrals that were managed electronically was 59.7 per cent in June 2010, increasing from 8.7 per cent in April 2009

The 2008/09 NHSScotland Chief Executive's Annual Report, which provided progress against all 2008/09 HEAT targets, was published in December 2009.

Progress against HEAT targets are routinely published by Information Services Division of NHS National Services Scotland, Scottish Government and Special Health Boards.

NHS performance reporting is now included within Scotland Performs.

Official statistics are produced by professionally independent statistical staff.
