One village primary school closes every month

 

In response to the National Housing Federation’s press release ‘One village primary school closes every month...’ issued today, 1 September 2009 we want to highlight the role of the primary school in the community they serve.

Rural schools are at the heart of many rural communities and play an important role which goes beyond the provision of education. They contribute to community cohesion, providing a focal point not only for children, but also for parents to meet and socialise. A thriving school can be the focal point of community life and activity, underpinning village life and strengthening social and community ties.
