The Arts Council and The National Trust have launched the 2012 programme for Trust New Art - a series of exhibitions, events, artists' residencies and commissions which situates work of contemporary artists in National Trust places.

The 2012 programme offers the widest variety of events since Trust New Art launched in 2009. In addition to established events such as the Tatton Park Biennial in Cheshire in May, highlights include:

• Five properties hosting work from the Arts Council Collection, including the spectacular Field for the British Isles by Antony Gormley and works by artists including: Tacita Dean, Tracey Emin, Susan Philipsz, Yinka Shonibare, Patrick Heron, David Bomberg and Graham Sutherland.
• Sinopticon, a collection of works from international artists, including Grayson Perry, Gayle Chong Kwan and Ed Pien at Saltram in Devon and other Plymouth venues.
• Silver Studio Today, with artist-silversmith Miriam Hanid in residence at Ickworth in Suffolk in association with the Goldsmiths' Company.
• Edmund de Waal creating a series of ceramic installations at Waddesdon Manor, drawing on his book The Hare with Amber Eyes.
• The Residents, which gives Tris Vonna-Michell the opportunity to live in the 18^th century pleasure grounds at Gibside and make work that will be exhibited at Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.

Developed as part of a partnership between the National Trust and Arts Council England, Trust New Art was supported by an initial £150,000 grant from the Arts Council plus additional Grants for the arts support during its first three years (2009-12), £165,000 from the National Trust, and further contributions from properties.

Over one million visitors have seen Trust New Art at more than 50 National Trust houses, gardens and landscapes across England since the programme began in 2009.

As a result of the positive response from thousands of National Trust visitors - and from property staff and volunteers - the National Trust will also continue the development of new programmes in contemporary art and crafts for its visitors past 2012.
