Flanders soil arrives in Britain

The 'sacred soil' from cemeteries of First World War battlefields in Flanders, where many millions died, is being brought to Britain.

The unique 2-day event in London will see the soil, held in 70 sandbags, taken across the capital and added as a focal point to a new Flanders Fields Memorial Garden.

The garden, based at Wellington Barracks on Birdcage Walk, is being specially created to mark the centenary of the First World War in 2014.
