Quality assurance is no obstacle for employer engagement

The higher education (HE) sector does not view quality assurance issues as a barrier to engaging with employers, according to a report published recently by HEFCE.

The report, compiled by the Quality Assurance Task Group on employer engagement, concludes that the quality assurance tools and processes currently in place for the HE sector are sufficient to deal with the current challenges of the employer engagement agenda. The report highlights, however, that workforce development programmes are at an early stage and that there is a need to share successful quality assurance strategies and monitor the situation.

To help demonstrate good practice and offer wider support, the report recommends funding for specific projects that explore areas of key interest for the future of quality assurance in this area.

The Quality Assurance Task Group on employer engagement was established jointly by HEFCE and the Quality and Assurance Agency to consider the quality assurance needs of provision led and funded by employers and to advise on whether any additional support is required for the HE sector.
