‘Creating a wave of kindness’ across the UK through Make a Difference Day 2009

Saturday 31 October was the annual Make a Difference Day, a UK-wide day of volunteering led by the Office of the Third Sector’s strategic partner Community Service Volunteers (CSV). This year the campaign aimed to highlight the importance of kindness and helping others.

CSV Make a Difference Day is the UK's largest day of volunteering. With many feeling the effects of the economic downturn CSV is hoping to create a wave of kindness across the UK. Two weeks of activities are taking place up until 7th November from community projects to befriending events and simple acts of kindess such as donating clothing to local charity shops.

A wide variety of stars from the world of TV and radio are getting behind the campaign this year.

Celebrities backing the campaign include Chris Tarrant, Pete Waterman, Ben Fogle, Kate Humble, Twiggy, Gillian McKeith, Aggie MacKenzie, Emma Forbes and Arthur Smith.

Chris Tarrant said:

"Volunteers do a great job and make a huge difference to people's lives in this country. A big thank you to all of them; keep up the good work! I would urge everyone to join in on Make a Difference Day - everyone has something to offer".

It is still possible to get involved with planned activities or to undertake an act of kindness. For more information visit CSV Make a Difference Day website:
