Recruitment drive to help deliver key ‘One Wales’ commitment

The Welsh Assembly Government today (Monday April 14th) began the process of recruiting business professionals to help deliver a key ‘One Wales’ commitment and help shape future capital investment in Wales.

The ‘One Wales’ programme commits the Assembly Government to the creation of a Strategic Capital Investment Board (SCIB). The body will initially control a dedicated £400 million fund that will be allocated to capital investment projects over the next three years.

A recruitment drive is under way for members of an independent advisory panel who will provide expert and independent advice to the Ministers who will sit on the SCIB.

Andrew Davies, Minister for Finance & Public Service Delivery said:

This panel will play a vital role in advising Ministers on how to make the best use of the capital funds available to the Assembly Government and help deliver a key ‘One Wales’ commitment.

The investment board is about joined-up government and delivering better value from the resources available to us. It will control £400 million to be invested in public services in Wales and this sum is expected to grow in the future as the Board makes its mark.

This unique panel will be at the forefront of developing opportunities to access capital finance and secure improvements in procurement & project management, consistent with an accountable, citizen-centred public service.

The Assembly Government is looking for up to seven business professionals with a strong appreciation of the economic scene in Wales and private capital and corporate finance expertise.

The closing date for those wishing to apply is the 8th May. It is expected interviews will be held during June 2008.
