An exciting new direction for LSN

LSN is taking a new strategic direction, offering its wealth of expertise to new sectors while extending its support for further education and training.

The organisation already delivers a range of high-profile programmes for the FE sector- including support for Post-16 Citizenship education and working with colleges to develop innovative teaching methods using mobile communication technology (Mobile Learning Network - MoLeNET).

Its new mission – ‘making learning work from the classroom to the boardroom’ – underlines an ongoing commitment to such crucial national programmes. LSN will work more closely with further education colleges, particularly as they respond to new Government policies and the demands and financial constraints of the recession.

While continuing this work, LSN will also diversify into other markets:
  • Helping local authorities, which face a host of new challenges as they become responsible for 14-19 education from next year.
  • Offering more support to schools. LSN already runs the successful Triple Science Support Programme, the Diploma Support Programme and mentoring for newly qualified science teachers.
  • Working with the work-based learning sector, helping organisations to deliver Apprenticeships and World Class Skills.
  • Helping public services such as the NHS and the Police, with up-to-date and relevant staff development and leadership programmes.
  • LSN has also been exploring international markets, and is ready to offer its expertise in India, the Gulf and the Middle East to help develop people, improve learning organisations and enhance their approach to education and training.
  • LSN is also building its long-standing reputation for research excellence by launching a new think-tank – the Centre for Innovation in Learning – creating a collaborative and fertile space for key thinkers to explore innovative responses to the big questions in learning.
After three years as the Learning and Skills Network, the organisation will now be known simply as LSN. It is launching a new, distinctive version of its brand and has changed its website address to www.lsnlearning.org.uk .

“This is a very exciting time for LSN,” said LSN’s Chief Executive John Stone. “These changes will allow us to offer our expertise and experience to a range of new sectors.

“At the same time we will also continue to give the same level of commitment to the further education and training sector, helping to build on our reputation for excellence.”
