Funding available to explore new BIDs

The Welsh Government is inviting applications for funding to support the development of Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) across Wales.

Regeneration Minister, Carl Sargeant says that the £200,000 being made available aims to encourage local authorities to explore opportunities to create a BID and then discuss these ideas with the local community and business stakeholders.

Carl Sargeant said:

“Business Improvement Districts have a good track record in bringing together local businesses and other stakeholders to explore ways of improving the local trading environment. That’s why supporting work to develop more BIDs is a key task in our regeneration framework, Vibrant and Viable Places.

“Up to £25,000 is now available to assist local partnerships in commissioning consultants to develop a BID application.

“I want all local authorities to consider the potential for Business Improvements Districts in earnest.

“Hopefully, a host of towns and cities across Wales will look to  join Swansea and Merthyr Tydfil in making the most of  this way of improving the profitability of local businesses.”

The deadline for applications is Friday 29 November 2013.

For more information, or if you have queries, email the Welsh Government’s BIDs mailbox.
