From Aberdeen to Bristol - accountants' views sought at online services workshops

From Aberdeen to Bristol - accountants' views sought at online services workshops

HM REVENUE AND CUSTOMS News Release (NAT 49/07) issued by The Government News Network on 20 July 2007

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is offering accountants a chance to hear about its online services, and have their say, at a series of free workshops around the UK.

The workshops are taking place across the UK in July and August, and will show accountants what online services are available, how to register to use them and the benefits of dealing with HMRC online.

Listings for the events can be found at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/carter/roadshows.htm

Places are free, and available on a first come, first served basis. To find out about events in your area, please follow the online links for your region's listings, and use the e-form to book your place.

"These events aim to ensure we design our online services around tax agents' needs. We are expecting high demand for places. So it is well worth agents finding out where their local events will be held and booking early to avoid disappointment. We are really looking forward to working with agents," says Mark Holden, Carter Programme Director for HMRC.

The workshops follow a review of HMRC's online services which recommended the department should work with its customers to enhance these services and increase usage. The workshops are designed to support agents in understanding changes to online services, and to gather comments and discuss any concerns from agents who will use them.

The website will be continuously updated to include further dates and locations.

Note to editors

1. In July 2005, the Paymaster General (PMG) set up an independent review under Lord Carter of Coles to consider measures to maximise use of online services for Self Assessment, VAT, Corporation Tax and PAYE. The recommendations from Lord Carter's review, published in March 2006, were accepted by the Government.
