Foundation Phase Rollout Reaches Significant Milestone

A significant milestone has been reached this week as children across Wales return to school following the summer break.
From this term, all children aged three to seven will be able to experience the Welsh Government’s revolutionary early year’s curriculum, the Foundation Phase.

The Foundation Phase for three to seven year olds is designed to give children in Wales the best possible start in life. It is based on learning through play, active involvement and practical activities which enhances their creativity, knowledge, skills and understanding which are invaluable for future learning.

Education Minister Leighton Andrews said:

“Completing the full rollout of the Foundation Phase is a great achievement for the Welsh Government.

“Since its inception, we have seen its popularity soar and I am always delighted to hear practitioners, parents, carers, experts and most importantly the children telling me abut the positives of this progressive approach to learning.

“I have been very open and frank about the need for Wales to raise standards and educational performance across the board. I firmly believe that giving our youngest learners the best possible start to their education journey will benefit them and Wales as a whole in the long-term.

“The Foundation Phase is a true product of devolution. It makes learning natural and enjoyable so that our young people constantly hunger for more knowledge and develop an eagerness for information and understanding that will stay with them for life.”
