Financial statements of the Youth Justice Board 2012-13

Amyas Morse, head of the National Audit Office, has recently qualified the accounts of the Youth Justice Board (YJB).

The YJB made benefit in kind payments to a senior member of staff, principally for travel from home to work, which were not retrospectively authorised by the Ministry of Justice. Mr Morse concluded that these payments did not conform with the authorities which govern them and are, therefore, irregular.

The recent report found that there was a lack of oversight, scrutiny and transparency of senior management remuneration. This led to several issues, as detailed in the YJB’s Remuneration Report and Governance Statement, including the irregular payments outlined above.
