Touch a meteorite, train as an astronaut - the UK celebrates World Space Week

The opportunity to touch a meteorite, meet a space scientist or take part in an astronaut training programme is just a taste of what’s on offer to members of the public as the UK celebrates World Space Week. (4-10 October 2012).

Eight leading UK Science and Discovery Centres are running space-related events with schools and families in their area, in celebration of the week. They are funded as part of a joint venture between the UK Association for Science and Discovery Centres (ASDC) and the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). Exploration of space and our understanding of the Universe outside of our planet are a source of wonder across the globe and are regularly cited as inspiring people who take up careers in science. World Space Week, a huge international effort coordinated by the United Nations, is an opportunity to celebrate and share some of this important activity.

Information about the events being run by the eight centres can be found on the organisations’ websites below.
