Cabinet Secretary for Health, Wellbeing and Cities Strategy, Nicola Sturgeon, recently announced the appointment of two new Members to Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board.
The new members are:
Ross Finnie – brings to the board a financial background, local knowledge and a general understanding of health matters. Ross worked as a Chartered Accountant for nearly thirty years in the financial services sector. He has also served as a local councillor in Inverclyde for twenty two years and was a regional list Member of the Scottish Parliament for the West of Scotland for twelve years, including a term as a member of the Health and Sport committee, gaining a thorough understanding of health related issues in the West of Scotland.
Ros Micklem – brings to the board experience of strategic leadership of public services and governance roles, and experience of serving on boards and building local partnerships across different sectors. Ros has 10 years experience as Principal of Cardonald College, Glasgow, from 1997 to 2007. Ros has also served on the Scottish Further Education Funding Council and the Greater Pollok Social Inclusion Partnership and is currently a member of the Scotland Committee of Shelter. Ros also brings to the board an interest in equality issues from her recent role as Scotland Director of the Equality and Human Rights Commission. Ros does not currently hold any other ministerial appointments.
The appointments will be for four years and will run from June 1, 2012 to May 31, 2016.
This post is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £8,008 for a time commitment of eight hours per week.
Ross Finnie – as of July 1, 2012 will also be an Ordinary Member on the Water Industry Commission for Scotland for which he will receive a remuneration of £13,780 per annum.
Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board is responsible for the strategic planning of health services and the development of measures to improve the health of the communities in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde regions.
This Ministerial public appointment was made in accordance with the code of practice published by the Public Appointments Commissioner for Scotland
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. Ross Finnie has obtained office as a Local Councillor, MSP, MP, MEP etc; stood as a candidate for one of the above offices; spoken on behalf of a party or candidate and canvassed on behalf of a party or helped at elections
From 1999 to 2011 Ross was a Regional List Member of the Scottish Parliament for the West of Scotland in each case representing the Scottish Liberal Party and then the Scottish Liberal Democrat Party. Ros Micklem has had no political activity in the last five years.
