‘Many Voices, One Wales’ to help increase minority ethnic achievement in education

A new DVD providing best practice guidance in meeting the needs of pupils from minority ethnic backgrounds has been launched by Education Minister Leighton Andrews.

The DVD is a new and innovative means of providing good practice guidance of the highest quality to support those working to increase minority ethnic achievement in education.

Filmed in a number of schools across Wales, ‘Many Voices, One Wales’ captures classes in progress; meetings with new pupils and their parents; teachers planning lessons and interviews with staff and pupils.

Speaking to an audience of head teachers, ethnic minority achievement co-ordinators, teachers and support assistants Leighton Andrews said:

"This new resource is extremely important for raising the achievements of minority ethnic children and young people in Wales.

“It is wonderful to see children from all parts of the world, and any number of cultural backgrounds, learning and playing together.

“It bodes very well for the future of Wales as a vibrant multi-cultural society where the Welsh tradition of racial tolerance and integration continue to thrive."

A copy of the DVD has been sent to every school in Wales.
