Plan for Allied Health Professionals

A national delivery plan to maximise the contribution and effectiveness Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) have on the health and social care services has been launched yesterday.

The delivery plan comes as moves to integrate health and social care, which will see more people being treated in the community, gather pace.

Speaking at the NHS Scotland Conference, the Minister for Public Health – a former Occupational Therapist – said:

"I know the importance that Allied Health professionals play in our NHS and how much more they can contribute to delivering high quality care.

"This plan will cover all AHPs in Scotland, including those who work in social care. Our plans for integration of health and social care services will provide real and tangible benefits for providers and individuals, their families and carers.

"Professional leadership, service realignment and workforce development will all be key to realisation of our aspirations - individuals and their families living healthy fulfilling lives at home, or in a homely setting, for as long as possible.

"I would encourage chief executives, directors of social work and leaders across health and social care services to utilise AHP expertise to the full as we work to better link health and social care."
