Marks & Spencer withdraws some Gluten Free Rich Fruit Cake
Marks & Spencer has withdrawn some of its own-brand Gluten Free Rich Fruit Cake, because the product contains wheat flour. The product label incorrectly mentions that the product is ‘made without wheat’ and is ‘gluten free’. This makes the product a possible health risk to anyone who is gluten intolerant or has an allergy to or intolerance of wheat. The Agency has issued an Allergy Alert.
If you are sensitive to wheat and gluten you are advised not to eat this product.

- ‘Best before’ date: 30 October 2010
- Unique code: 00395120
- Weight: 375g
Marks & Spencer has withdrawn the affected product from sale and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members why the product has been withdrawn. Notices will be displayed on the company’s website, explaining to customers why the product has been withdrawn. If you have bought the affected product, you can return it to your nearest store for a full refund.
No other Marks & Spencer products are known to be affected.
