M1 Motorway in South Yorkshire re-opened after successful towers demolition

HIGHWAYS AGENCY News Release (YH/123/08) issued by The Government News Network on 24 August 2008

The Highways Agency can confirm that following the successful demolition of Tinsley Towers by E.ON, the necessary checks to the M1 and A631 on the Tinsley Viaduct have been carried out and the routes were re-opened to traffic due to re-open to traffic at 17:35 hrs.

NOTES TO EDITORS

2. E.ON announced on 12 August 2008 that it would bring down the redundant Tinsley cooling towers over the August bank holiday weekend. The 250ft towers were demolished in a controlled explosion in the early hours of Sunday 24 August.
