CEOP sweeps the board at coveted awards ceremony

The Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) Centre is celebrating after its Children and Young People Team collected 8 awards at the acclaimed International Visual Communications Association (IVCA) on Friday 26 March 2011.

Two of CEOP’s educational films – ‘Lee and Kim’s Adventure – Animal Magic' produced by Straker Films and ‘Exposed’, which was only launched in February to highlight the issue of sexting, produced by Pukka Films, were recognised in categories including ‘Education’, ‘Best Animation, Graphics and Special Effects’ and ‘Best Script’, picking up two Gold, four Silver and two Bronze awards. There were also three ‘Highly Commended’ awards to add to the collection.

‘Lee and Kim’s Adventure- Animal Magic’ is an animated film launched as part of EU Safer Internet Day 2010. The film has been designed for five to seven year olds and aims to introduce young children to the concepts of personal information and trust. ‘Exposed’, a ten minute film aimed at 11-16 year olds, encourages young people to think about their actions and how these may affect others and their lives in future. The focus of this film is taking and sending inappropriate images of yourself - something that is becoming more prevalent amongst teenagers.

Helen King, CEOP’s Head of the Children and Young People Team said:

As a team, we are delighted that our two most recent educational films have received such highly-praised awards. The work that goes into the creation of these films involves a huge number of man hours, so to be rewarded in this way is testament to all those who have contributed.

Thousands of children have already seen these two resources and I would like to encourage any teacher or professional who works with children, who is yet to use them, to visit our site www.thinkuknow.co.uk and download them for free. Both come with lesson plans and activity sheets for use in the classroom.”
