Another step forwards for the Teaching Masters
Education Minister Leighton Andrews has announced the successful bid for the contract to accredit, deliver and award Wales’ new Masters in Educational Practice.
Invitations to tender for the contract were sent out in January. The successful bid was the consortia bid submitted by Cardiff University, the Institute of Education, Aberystwyth University and Bangor University.
The Minister has announced that from September 2012 Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) will have the opportunity to follow a Masters programme alongside their Induction and Early Professional Development.
The key elements of the Masters programme will be focussed on the Minister’s three national priorities. These are literacy, numeracy and reducing the impact of poverty on attainment.
The Minister said:
“I would like to congratulate all of the institutions involved on their joint bid and now look forward to seeing how they will deliver this new Masters programme.
“As I have said previously, we need to raise standards of performance across the board in Wales so our learners can reach their potential.
“A crucial part of this is ensuring we have highly skilled teachers who are able to deliver effective teaching and learning in the classroom. The new Masters in Educational Practice (MEP) will help us achieve that.”
