Influenza immunisation

Statistics on influenza were published today by ISD Scotland.

Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon said:

"The annual influenza immunisation campaign is one of our biggest public health initiatives and it's encouraging that the numbers of over 65s - and younger people in the 'at risk' groups - coming forward for vaccinations are continuing to increase.

"Although uptake rates have improved in the under 65 at risk group, work continues to be done to reach the target to vaccinate 60 per cent of this group.

"Influenza H1N1 virus is expected to be the most common influenza virus circulating in the next flu season. This year's seasonal flu vaccine will provide protection against H1N1 and we encourage people in to get their vaccine when asked to do so by their GP."
