New members wanted for ACAF

The Advisory Committee on Animal Feedingstuffs (ACAF) is looking to recruit two new members.

ACAF is an independent committee that advises the Food Standards Agency and ministers on the safety and use of animal feeds and feeding practices, with particular emphasis on protecting human health and with reference to new technical developments.

Two new members are required, one with knowledge and experience in the animal feed industry, ideally in the feed additive and/or the feed supplement sectors and the second in veterinary science, with some committee experience. Candidates must be effective team workers, able to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills, and sound judgement with strong analytical and problem solving skills. Candidates must be able to work in a committee structure and to be able to consider issues outside their own specialist areas.

The posts present an excellent opportunity to contribute to food safety and standards in the UK by providing advice on this key stage of the food chain. Appointments are usually for three years at a time. ACAF usually meet in open sessions three times a year, mainly in London. Members are not salaried, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed, with some remuneration to cover attendance of meetings.

Appointments to ACAF are based on merit by a fair and open process in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments’ Code of Practice, taking account of equality and diversity. The FSA operates a Guaranteed Interview Scheme for people with disabilities who meet the essential published criteria.
