What steps need to be taken next to widen participation?

Over a decade has gone by since the report of the Widening Participation Committee - Learning works - was presented to the Further Education Funding Council.

Ten years on, a new report called Unfinished business in widening participation: the end of the beginning asks how far have we come in the decade since Learning works? What progress have we made? What barriers have we yet to overcome?

The last decade has seen a number of policy initiatives aimed at improving the low participation rates in higher education by certain sections of the population, including women, some ethnic groups and those who are socially, economically and geographically disadvantaged.

Bringing together the perspectives of key thinkers, researchers and commentators, the report aims to stimulate debate on what we need to do next to widen participation.
