IfG response to latest Efficiency and Reform Group results

The Cabinet Office’s Efficiency and Reform Group (ERG) has released its latest results yesterday, announcing a headline saving of £5.4billion.

Responding to yesterday’s results, the Institute for Government’s Deputy Director, Julian McCrae, said:

“ERG’s continuing focus on securing efficiency savings across Whitehall is welcome, as this is an area that often gets too little attention.

“It is good to see that the transparency of the figures has improved compared to previous releases, with greater detail on how the figures are calculated published alongside the results.

“We hope that future releases will build on this, and ensure that this greater transparency is also evident in the headline messages.

“In the run up to the Autumn Statement, the Institute will be looking at the detailed figures and assessing how ERG is doing in hitting the targets that ministers have set for them.”
