Jane Hutt sees how older people in Aberdare are getting online
The DO IT project has received £36, 547 from the Welsh Government and has helped 335 people. Those attending the project have been supported by volunteers including four students from Treorchy Comprehensive School who are working towards their Welsh Baccalaureate.
Following her visit Jane Hutt said:
"Projects like the DO IT project are exactly the kind of scheme that can help to increase the skills and confidence of older people when they use the internet. We want to support individuals and communities so that everyone can benefit from using the internet.
"The internet can help people to communicate more easily; get goods more easily and for lower prices, access public services more easily and increase employment opportunities. It is also about reducing isolation and social exclusion.
"Thanks to the DO IT project older people in Rhondda Cynon Taf are now able to stay in touch with family and friends through the internet and Skype and access more services online."
