Care & Repair is a charitable body providing free services to help older people to remain living independently, comfortably and safely in their own homes. Services include support with home improvements, management of building work and advice on suitable contractors.

The Minister said:

“The Welsh Government remains committed to improving the lives of older people by ensuring that they are able to live independently for as long as they choose.

“The funding will also help older people return to their own homes sooner after spending time in hospital. It is an example of how the Welsh Government is working to improve the care for patients and tackle delayed transfers of care.”

“With this funding, Care & Repair agencies can build on the services they are offering and provide safe, comfortable and secure homes to the older people of Wales."

Chris Jones, Chief Executive of Care & Repair Cymru commented:

“This is great news for older people who want to live independently in their own homes and communities, for as long as possible.

“The continued support for Care & Repair sends a powerful message from the Welsh Government about how much it values services that help vulnerable older people live independently in safe, warm, accessible housing.

“Our services also make sound economic sense. Good quality, warm, properly adapted housing reduces the need for admissions to more expensive residential care homes. In addition, it prevents admissions to hospitals from, for example, falls and respiratory disease caused by cold damp housing; and gets people out of hospital and back home quicker, making a significant contribution to reducing delayed transfers of care.

“With the support of this funding from the Welsh Government, we look forward to helping tens of thousands of older people improve their housing conditions over the coming year.”
