BME dietary interventions workshop proposed

7 Oct 2009 04:31 PM

FSA Wales and the Physical Activity and Nutrition Network Wales are proposing to co-host a two-part workshop to disseminate and discuss the outcomes of a review of dietary interventions in black and minority ethnic (BME) groups that was published by FSA Wales earlier this year.

The overall aim of the review was to analyse the BME situation in Wales and to review evaluated dietary interventions in BME groups. The review makes six recommendations for future dietary interventions in BME groups. These focus on the importance of using appropriate evaluation methods, tools and behavioural change models, to ensure interventions are effective.

The workshops will be essential to practitioners who work with BME communities but also of interest to those who work with hard-to-reach groups generally. They will also provide a valuable networking opportunity for attendees. The two-part workshops will be held in Cardiff.

The format currently being proposed is as follows:

Part One (provisionally December 2009)
Overview of the report findings
Evaluation: introduction to appropriate methods/tools with case study

Part Two (provisionally February 2010)
Behavioural change models: introduction to models validated for use with BME groups
Community engagement: tested approaches with case study

There will be no charge for this event, however, spaces are limited. Please register your interest by 16 October 2009, by tel: 02920 678950 or email: sarah.meredith@foodstandards.gsi.gov.uk.

A formal agenda with venue and times/dates will be circulated to those who register their interest in due course.

The recommendations and review are available in full via the link below.
