industry news SME profile Tuesday 29 Nov 2016 @ 13:25 Supporting Long Term Multiple Role Recruitment at University of Birmingham

20+ new staff members recruited in 4 different IT Divisions over a 2-year period for Project based work.

These roles varied from technical positions such as Infrastructure support (1st – 3rd line) & Development (Java & .Net) to functional roles such as Business Analysts and Project Manager.

The Solution

VIQU met with the Line managers of the relevant departments to understand the requirements, prepared a tailored solution with specific deliverables and embarked upon an extensive search and a far-reaching branded advertising campaign. Among the specific methodologies employed were:

  • Talent pooling; utilising VIQU’s specialist networks to attract those that delivered similar projects in the educational sector;
  • Targeting the passive and inactive market space – Using a headhunting approach. VIQU use the latest tools and methods to contact clients that are not actively seeking on open market. Thus, ensuring a greater talent pool, less competition from competing organisations as they are working with ourselves exclusively.
  • Thorough candidate qualification and competency based interviewing
  • Presenting interview & qualification notes, CVs and detailed coversheets to help the trust when reviewing candidates.

VIQU engaged with over 500 applicants, conducted over 50 first round face-to-face interviews and produced a short list for each requirement with ratios of 2:1 (CVs submitted: requirement), before submitting candidates to the client. Weekly catch-up meetings were set up with all the placed contractors and the management team and MI reports supplied monthly to the PMO.

VIQU’s IT’s experience in delivering project teams for large projects meant they were well versed with the internal politics and sensitivity around cost. VIQU supplied the best talent at affordable rates to help them to try and meet programme and project deliverables within restrictive budgets.

The VIQU team engaged closely with the client to gain a full understanding of what was required both from a cultural and technical perspective and kept in regular contact to ensure applicants were relevant and matched the dynamics of the teams they were being placed into. - this was important as the client’s needs evolved over the course of the project.

THE RESULT

VIQU’s on-going support has been significant during these projects. We have ensured that the contractors placed were of the highest calibre, managing to fill some extremely difficult requirements with quality candidates on time and to budget.
