WiredGov Survey Report: How Are Public Sector Budget Cuts Hurting Talent Acquisition?

Public sector budget cuts are prompting innovation in recruitment.Oleeo, a talent acquisition technology provider, in partnership with WiredGov, conducted a survey in May 2024 to understand how public sector organisations are adapting to these cuts.

The results, detailed in this report, reveal just how much of an impact budget cuts are having on public sector talent acquisition. While some of the results might be what you’d expect, some surprising findings did emerge, particularly regarding the use of AI and data-driven processes. These findings suggest that many organisations have yet to fully leverage available efficiencies in their recruitment processes.

• 80% of respondents have the potential for organisational failure due to staffing/people challenges
• 86% of respondents strongly agree that budget reductions are hindering their recruiting efforts
• 83% of respondents strongly agree that it is difficult to find candidates with the right skills and qualifications

While budget cuts present challenges, they also offer opportunities for improvement.
