Hertfordshire County Councils Design-led Approach to Automation
Hertfordshire County Councils Design-led Approach to Automation: Identifying the gap between transformation ambition and reality. Manually processing invoices, without automation assistance, takes a vast amount of people power. For Hertfordshire County Council’s Accounts Payable Team, this was no different. The challenge the Council faced was the seemingly lengthy back-and-forth from mailbox to mailbox. This not only took up team members’ valuable time, which could be better spent on analysis, innovation, and ideas, but also led to inevitable inaccuracies, further reducing the efficiency of the team. A change was needed to help tackle these issues – and the council were eager to make it. By running a collaborative workshop to identify opportunities and processes that would be suitable for Robotic Process Automation (RPA), almost nine in ten (87%) of invoices are now fully, successfully, handled and completed through automation, giving the council back more than 1,000 hours in time in the first five months of operation alone.
