Q1 2018 Cybercrime Report

Cybercrime was almost omniscient in 2017; leaning heavily on military buzzwords, global headlines captured the public’s imagination with accusations of State-sponsored cyberespionage and the escalating cyber arms race.

Cybercrime Report: Q1 2018 is based on actual cybercrime attacks from January – March 2018 that were detected during real-time analysis and interdiction of fraudulent online payments, logins and new account applications.

Trends observed are representative of key market trends:

  • 210 million attacks were detected and stopped in real time; a 62% increase over the previous year.
  • The anatomy of bot attacks continues to shift and morph; transactions from several new and emerging economies are very likely to be bots
  • 60% of all account creations are now done on a mobile device, indicating the increased role of mobile as the key enabler across the entire customer journey.
