About Us
ELG Planning are a well-established, award winning town planning practice who have been assisting clients in the private and public sector for 30 years with offices in Darlington and Harrogate. We have a strong team of chartered town planners with all eligible staff being Members of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and the Practice has been awarded RTPI Learning Partner status in recognition of our high level of commitment to training and professional development.
ELG Heritage is a specialist arm of the practice, providing expert advice and consultancy services covering all aspects of the historic built environment undertaking commissions on behalf of both public and private sector clients on schemes affecting a range of heritage assets, including Conservation Areas, Scheduled Monuments, Listed Buildings, Historic Parks & Gardens and Non-Designated Heritage Assets.

ELG have undertaken numerous Financial Viability Appraisals across the country and have dual qualified colleagues with the relevant experience in preparing these assessments.

From solar farms, energy storage, on-shore wind to electrical vehicle charging, ELG have been involved in a range of projects large and small across the country helping to meet net zero.
Education & Healthcare
ELG Planning have supported schools, colleges and universities directly and have also acted for a number of major contractors to deliver education schemes across the country. We have also provided planning advice to help secure consent for a number of healthcare facilities.
Leisure & Tourism
ELG have led on a number of major tourism proposals throughout the UK, including the delivery of new city centre hotels, rural camping and caravan parks and the renovation of existing sites.
Awards
The practice was awarded the RTPI North East Planning Excellence Award in 2016 and Highly Commended in the same category of the East of England award in both 2017 & 2018. ELG were shortlisted nationally for Planning Consultancy of the Year in 2017 & 2019 and were Highly Commended in the RTPI East of England Learning Partner Award in 2020 and by the RTPI Learning Partner Awards for our Graduate Training Program in 2020. In 2024, the practice was awarded a commendation for the Newcastle Engineering Building, which has also been put forward for the National Planning Awards, as well as a Best in Region award for ‘Darlington Yards’ at the RTPI North East Planning Excellence Awards.
