ABOUT US

Marmax Products first opened its doors in 1998, manufacturing produce boxes and picnic benches; all made from 100% HDPE recycled plastic. The only colour options we started with was black or brown. As the company began to grow, we noticed a trend throughout the education industry for different coloured benches and also play equipment. We then introduced blue, green, red, yellow and our very popular ‘rainbow’ products, all made from 100% HDPE recycled plastic. This, in turn, lead to us manufacturing a range of outdoor furniture to suit all ages and was also the beginning of our play range.

Over the years, the company has gone from strength to strength and has added a huge amount of products to their ever growing ranges – from playboats, cars and pirate ships, to our award winning SEN (Special Educational Needs) range which promotes social inclusion for all. In 2016, we introduced our grey colour option and in 2018, we have introduced our purple and orange colour options; giving our customers more variety to choose from.

We were then approached by the Dogs Trust to manufacture dog agility equipment for dogs of all sizes and breeds and which would not harm their paws. We now have a full range of dog agility equipment ranging from training cubes and pole jumps, to dog adventure areas and paddling pools. We also donate 5% back to the Dogs Trust on every sale of dog agility equipment.

Over the years, Marmax Products have won numerous awards such as the prestigious Green Apple Award, Green World Award and also Green World Ambassador status for 5 consecutive years. We have also been finalists in the Plastic Industry Awards and also finalists in local awards such as North East Employee of the Year Awards and Durham Environment Awards.

Marmax Products are seen as one of the market leaders in the manufacturing of 100% HDPE recycled plastic which does not rot, corrode or splinter and is guaranteed for a minimum of 25 years. Furthermore, once the product has come to the end of its life, we are able to recycle this back into the extrusion process and create more products for future generations.

We cater for all sectors from schools and councils, theme parks and pubs, parish councils and hospitals to fisheries and sporting clubs. Our vast range of products means we have something for everyone.

Because all of our products are handmade in our factory in County Durham, we are able to offer a bespoke service so if there is anything that you require but cannot see it on our website, give us a call and we will be happy to help.

Why We Recycle

Recycled products must not be seen as second rate, but an equal or better alternative to what is already available, with the added advantage of helping to improve the environment. Our products are excellent examples of this policy in action and can be used in the classroom or playground as examples of recycling in practice. Recycled plastic is better than timber or metal, especially when considering the cost of maintenance, both financially and environmentally.

  • Recycling plastic transforms rubbish into a high quality product
  • One bench uses more than the equivalent of 2000 plastic bottles
  • Recycling reduces the need for landfill sites
  • Our benches become tangible tools when discussing recycling

For more information see the RECOUP web site www.recoup.org. RECOUP is the national charity developing plastics recycling in the UK, promoting best practices and providing educational and training tools.

Why use recycled plastic?

Recycled plastic is a low maintenance, environmentally friendly and economical alternative to timber. It has the appearance of wood with the advantages of plastic making it the ideal material for outdoor furniture in urban and park environments.

Why is it better than wood?

  • It does not fade so it keeps its appearance without the need of paint or stain, eliminating expensive labour costs and environmental damage
  • It cannot rot, so can tolerate damp conditions
  • It does not absorb water, so resists fungal growth
  • It is robust enough to withstand the demands of urban situations
  • Plastic extrusion eliminates splinters
  • It is very easy to keep clean, especially where hygiene is important
  • Our designs are made from substantial heavy duty recycled plastic that resist graffiti, are difficult to burn and are heavy to move.

Does it come in different colours?

Yes, there is a choice of colours particularly for the children’s playground products. It becomes a bright and cheerful addition to the playground and extends choice when planning a scheme. We have found that offering the children the chance to choose their colour schemes gives them ownership and pride in their surroundings. A school’s identity can be promoted by making benches in the school’s colours

How many plastic bottles does it take to make one recycled plastic bench?

One bench uses more than the equivalent of 2000 plastic bottles.

Will it degrade in acidic turf?

No. The plastic is unaffected by the acid occurring naturally in soil.

How can paint be removed?

The majority of paint can be wiped off with thinners, which do not affect the plastic.

How can marker pen be removed?

The same way as paint, by the use of thinners.

What fixings are available?

We can fix ground plates to enable products to be bolted to concrete surfaces, or extend the legs for burial in soil or cement.

Can you manufacture in specific colours?

Our standard colours include brown, black. Many of our products can be made in blue, red, yellow, green and grey. Please check product details. For large enough quantities we can produce any colour. So corporate colours can be included.
