Our Services

Local Exhaust Ventilation

Thousands of companies in the UK use local exhaust ventilation (LEV) to control airborne contaminants. Some employers use it to comply with the law, some use it as a defence against litigation for industrial disease and some use it as good practice.

Employees need to use LEV to prevent inhalation exposure to hazardous substances.

Workforce First visits many companies in the West Midlands to provide the thorough examination and testing of LEV required by Regulation 9 of the latest COSHH regulations Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 as Amended 2005.

The purpose of the regulation is to ensure that LEV as a means of exposure control, continues to work.

Noise Control

Noise induced hearing loss is a real issue causing disability for the sufferer.
With the remit to prevent illness, injury and disability from work, the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 were produced to stamp out hearing loss.

The employer is required to assess the problem and to fix it by reducing noise at source and not just paper over the cracks as it were by providing hearing protection and information.

Vibration

Hand-arm vibration syndrome is an industrial injury triggered by continuous use of vibrating hand held tool or machinery.

It is the second largest prescribed industrial disease other than lung diseases, with 635 new Vibration White Finger and 295 new Carpal Tunnel Syndrome conditions reported in 2012.

Energy from vibration damages the nerves and blood vessels in the hand and arm. Symptoms include numbness, pain and tingling in the fingers and reduced fine touch, there may also be reduced manual dexterity and strength of grip.

Damage to blood vessels is shown up by blanching of the fingers with delayed and painful recovery.

Examples of those at risk include people who regularly use jack hammers, grinders, sanders, chainsaws, hammer drills, or any other tool, machine or action that produces vibration.

“Over thirteen thousand new cases of industrial respiratory disease a year tell us that inhalation exposure is a significant issue: An issue that employers should take seriously. An issue that employers must take seriously if they are to comply with the law and prevent industrial injury prevent claims.
