Founded in 1962 Hockley & Dawson has over fifty years’ experience specialising in the sensitive repair and conservation of historic buildings, prestigious houses and important structures and is able to combine an understanding of the methods of construction and craftsmanship with traditional or modern techniques and materials, allowing a sympathetic approach to detailing and repair, with the emphasis on minimum intervention. We offer a full, inclusive range of Structural Engineering services ranging from initial early advice through to full structural design and detailing. We always try and offer a considered approach to design in conjunction with the requirements of the brief.

 

Historic Masonry 

Hockley & Dawson have many years’ experience in the repair, conservation and construction of masonry structures, either new or historic. Recent and current projects include the Barrack Block and Apartment 39 at Hampton Court, Radburne Hall and Turners House in Twickenham. We have been assisting Falmouth Heritage Renewal in Jamaica in the repair of Georgian masonry and the repair of the service buildings at the Governors House in Antigua. SEE MORE

 

Timber Frame

Follies and Garden Structures

Hockley & Dawson have worked on a significant number of Follies and Garden Structures including a number of buildings and bridges at Painshill Park, the Pagoda at Kew, repairs at West Horsley Place and historic railings and gates at Hampton Court. SEE MORE

 

Churches and Ecclesiastical Buildings

Hockley & Dawson have worked on numerous Churches, Abbeys and Cathedrals for projects including repairs, conservation, reordering and additions. These works have included masonry repairs, complex timber repairs and works to bell frames and towers. SEE MORE

Concrete Structures

Hockley & Dawson have been involved with a number of interesting concrete structures including the Wind Tunnels at Farnborough, German concrete defences on Jersey and currently the Battle of Britain Bunker at Hillingdon. SEE MORE

 

Unusual Structures

Hockley & Dawson were honoured to be able to assist, in a small way, Historic Royal Palaces commemoration of the sacrifice made on our behalf by the generation that fought in the First World War, the 880000 poppies forming the Blood Soaked Lands and Seas of Red. We also spent an afternoon helping to plant poppies in the moat of the Tower of London. SEE MORE

 

New Structure in a Historic Setting

Hockley & Dawson have designed a number of new structures in historic settings including the Tower of London, Torre Abbey, Dover Castle and Carisbrooke Castle. Other significant interventions to historic fabric include the reordering of the Long Wards at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, the Royal Archive in the Round Tower at Windsor and the reroofing of the Reform Club to reinstate the Pantiles originally intended by Sir Charles Barry.
