Activate – Workman Placemaking, are an experienced team of placemaking professionals, offering solutions for retail, leisure and commercial environments. We enliven spaces and engage communities, through a combination of consultancy advice and operational management.
OUR SERVICES
The team work across a wide range of retail, leisure and commercial properties, providing consultancy services in relation to regeneration, repurposing and enlivenment.
For example, recent projects include:
- Supporting local authorities with town centre regeneration and masterplanning projects, providing strategic and operational advice
- Creating retail and leisure uses for repurposed units and development sites – from concept to delivery
- Preparing Place and Meanwhile Use strategies aimed at enlivening town centre development and mixed used schemes
The approach to placemaking at commercial properties focuses on creating a strong community of occupiers and delivering a bespoke programme of activity and enlivenment.

OUR PUBLIC SECTOR WORK
We have or are currently acting for a large number of local authorities throughout the UK including; Cheshire West & Chester Council, St Helens Council, Watford Borough Council, Gosport Borough Council and Gloucester City Council.
Our team includes a Fellow of the Institute of Place Management and member of the Government’s High Streets Task Force, uniquely placing us to support public sector objectives around engaging with communities and supporting high streets and town centres.
Through working with these public sector clients we understand the particular commercial requirements of local authorities, for example around delivering commercially viable town centre regeneration and transparent stakeholder engagement.
