2019 Dŵr Cymru Cyfyngedig (Welsh Water) to supply services to Parc Llanilid

Water regulator Ofwat has granted Dŵr Cymru Cyfyngedig (Welsh Water) a variation to its existing appointment to enable it to supply water and sewerage services to Parc Llanilid in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

As set in primary legislation, the new appointment and variation mechanism allows one company to replace another as the provider of water and sewerage services for a specific area. This mechanism can be used by new companies to enter the market and by existing companies to expand into areas where they are not the appointed company.

Welsh Water will provide sewerage services to a new development of 1850 residential properties and a planned ‘village centre’ comprising leisure facilities, a medical centre, primary school, retail/services/food and drink retail units and office and commercial floor space. The site was formally serviced by SSE Water.

Welsh Water is an incumbent water and sewerage undertaker, serving over three million people across a large proportion of Wales.
