APCC Response to the Government’s announced consultation on strengthening police powers to tackle unauthorised encampments

APCC Equalities, Diversity and Human Rights Lead, PCC David Munro responded to the Home Office’s consultation announcement on strengthening police powers to tackle unauthorised encampments

“We welcome the consultation announced by government regarding police powers and unauthorised caravan sites.

“The APCC will liaise with our partners in policing and across communities to provide our response in due course. Any change to the existing law should not place any additional burden on our already overstretched forces and should be accompanied by measures to encourage all communities to live peaceably side by side.

“We would encourage all those affected including local authorities, police forces, Travellers, communities and the general public to also provide their perspectives to this consultation.”
